None of the so called self help websites from TV ever mentioned that a 40 year old house bath tiles have chicken wire stapled to the sheet rock and then 3/8" cement then the porcelain tile.It took 6 hours with 4lb hammer and concrete chisel to do the back of the tub wall. That seems to help quite a bit as it worked hard for four days ripping out this bathroom.This is my second Bosch tool and it's not made in Mexico or China so this is quality that I can rely on and not worry if it'll last through a job. The chipping bit is light and strong. The portion that is black must be the gear box even with leather gloves it is HOT. If you're the kind of DIY person on a regular basis then you should get this one.
Pro or average Joe, this is a fine tool, light stout and hard working never skipped a beat and the bits is light strong and as of yet the angled chisel has no scares of any damage. It only takes a slight amount of force exerted on the bit to get the hammer to walk down the line and score the grout and work through your work.Others have nice names based on American built history and rightly; so but the "cheap labor" quality leaves me out and I'll pay extra for my future Bosch tools. I used Amsoil grease on the SDS bit shaft and placed a thumbnail amount in the chuck. The lavatory top had 1" cement and then the tile.this tool ripped right through it with ease. In other words this tool rocks. If the others had it I overlooked them but was looking hard for this function. The one inch floor tile squares came off with ease. PLUS, this is the only one that had its narrative describe that it was 3 position with Hammer function.
I went to L****'s because I could not wait for delivery. The "D" handle comes in handy when leaning body parts to work chipping bit as your whole body and arms get tired and you can't stop. Very impressive indeed. It took 2 hours to do the wall on the long side about 1 hour to do the wall with the fixtures. Word of caution, face shield over safety glasses cannot be over emphasized, mine got two chips.
Would recomend to anyone who needs this type of tool. Excellent combination of power and balance. Very versitile and easy to use tool. Well thought out controls and features.
The hammer only mode doesn't hit very hard but after a few hours I had a hole large enough to crawl through. Will snap deck screws with ease but made quick work once I got use to the variable trigger control. I purchased this hammer drill to chip out an access hole through a 12" thick foundation wall to a crawl space under a new house addition. Since this project I've purchased the drill bit chuck adapter and used it to shore up an old sub floor. The forward/reverse switch is on top unlike the older versions ( inside of handle ) where you would bump it during use. Drilling the wall with a 3/8" bit took no time. Once this drill warms up it hammer drills quickly.
Just remember to resist the temptation to use it as a prybar (place side load on the SDS head)I have found that a lot of what used-to-be considered "top" manufacturers are building their tools in China and Mexico, (Porter Cable- which was built in USA, now owned by Dewalt- which are now built in Mexico) while most of the Bosch line is still built in European countries with European Quality. In performing floor repairs I found with the right chisel inserted it works quite well to slide sections of tongue and groove hardwood flooring out from between boards without damaging the tongues- A job that can be really slow using hand tools. Read the reviews and decided to purchase this tool based on a variety of needs. The design is very good, swiveling cord strain relief, rafter hook, excellent power.
The ergonomics of the tool give you good grip support and comfort even during extended periods of use. I have used this tool for several projects around the house and find it to be a powerful performer. Sure beats using a cold chisel and sledge hammer. This will be a welcome addition to your tool collection when you need more power than a standard hammer drill can provide. This rotary hammer is built to last and easy to set up for use. Your first inclination may be to apply too much force behind the tool, but back off a little and let the tool do the work.
